Sustainability

Sustainability is, of course, one of the core values of HOUSE17.

My mission was to create timeless, high-quality products that will last you a lifetime.

Designed to be versatile for every day and any occasion.

The Making

In the production of each piece, I use recycled silver as much as possible. The only component I am yet to source in recycled silver is the bolt ring clasps on the necklaces…for now.

The cast elements are also cast in recycled silver by my trusty East London casters.

Any off cuts or filings from the making process are collected to be recycled.

My materials are sourced locally from Hatton Garden, London as much as possible.

HOUSE17 is a small business so pieces are made to order or made in small batches to avoid dead stock.

The Packaging

It was important to me to think about the sustainability of every part of the process. The packaging had to be as sustainable as possible.

I asked myself and friends about the importance of sustainability when purchasing a new piece of jewellery, particularly the packaging.

What do you expect from the packaging when you buy demi fine jewellery?

How do you store your jewellery at home and when you travel?

Do you keep the original packaging?

The packaging had to me as minimal as possible, functional, protective but also feel on brand with a lil bit of luxury.

Here’s the breakdown -

The cotton bags - The best bit. Versatile, perfect for storing your piece on your bedside table, suitcase, or alternatively, a little protective bag for your earbud headphones. Made from organic cotton.

The box and foam insert - Minimal, functional, and fully recyclable (although I recommend you keep your jewellery in it). The paper and card are FSC® Certified, and the black foam is made from tall oil - a by-product extracted from trees from paper production, 100% free from crude oil.

The tissue paper - A light layer of protection as your piece makes its way to you. FSC® Certified, chloride & acid free.

Business cards - A little bit of self-promotion, pass on to a friend if you like. Made from recycled card and fully recyclable.

Mailing box - Keep and reuse if you can. FSC® Certified corrugated cardboard, water-based glue and paper strips.
